Leading and Managing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Organizations (2025)
Robert Yawson
To achieve workplace diversity and inclusion effectively, you must foster a culture where everyone feels valued and heard. Inclusive workplaces build on equal opportunity principles to create a culture of respect, involvement, and success for all employees. People in the workplace constantly interact with peers, managers, and customers who have diverse backgrounds and experiences. When harnessed effectively, these differences can serve as a catalyst for creative breakthroughs and pave the way for team and organizational learning and effectiveness; however, when misunderstood, they can challenge employees’ values, performance, workplace relationships, and team effectiveness. This presentation will explore diverse and cross-cultural organizational settings, as well as the skills required to work within and lead diverse teams and global organizations. The paper will discuss how to examine topics such as identity, relationships across differences, discrimination and bias, equality, and equity in organizations and societies worldwide, and how these relate to organizational issues of power, privilege, opportunity, inclusion, creativity, innovation, and effectiveness from a systems perspective. The presentation will offer insight into how diversity can be conceived in very different ways across various parts of an organization.
